What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a complementary and alternative medicine that focuses on treating the musculoskeletal conditions of the body, particularly those that are related to both the spine and the nervous system. It focuses on manipulations of the spine to help reduce pain by correcting imbalances and restricted joints within the spine.

Chiropractic was founded by Dr D. D. Palmer in America in 1895. Since then, chiropractic has spread to most countries around the world and is becoming more and more popular to treat musculoskeletal disorders due to the non-invasion and more natural way of relieving pain.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy, or Osteopathic Medicine, was founded in the 19th century by the American physician Dr Andrew Taylor Still. Osteopathy is a holistic manual medicine that aims to treat the neuro-musculoskeletal system. Through a range of various techniques an Osteopath is able to improve function of the nervous system, assist in joint mobility, increase blood flow, relieve muscle tension and promote the body’s ability to self heal.

At Anderson Health our Osteopaths provide a different approach which strongly focuses on the function of the nervous system through spinal and joint manipulation to ensure you reach your optimal health.

What to expect from your Initial Consultation.

When you arrive at the clinic, you will be asked to fill out an intact form This is used to help the doctor understand what you are presenting with and allow them to begin the appointment. Once that information has been completed, you will enter a consultation room with the doctor where they will go through the intake form and ask a range of different questions. Once these are completed, the doctor will conduct a full orthopaedic examination to help diagnose the presenting complaint. Once this is completed, if it is clinically necessary, the patient may be referred for further imaging.

The patient will then return for the second part of the session in which the doctor will go through their findings with you. They will explain what has happened to the body and where the pain is coming from. Once they have done this, the doctor will provide you with their recommendations, then conduct the initial adjustment if you wish to proceed with care.
